Salary surveys typically provide market rates for remuneration paid (and benefits provided) to key positions within the marketplace. The more sophisticated of these Surveys, such as the National Salary Survey,
utilise
a position description matching methodology, which matches generic position descriptions to an organisation’s specific positions.
Whilst effective for the majority of positions within an organisation, there will be some positions that are more specialised in nature, broader in scope or are simply unique to a particular organisation’s individual situation. These may not be covered at all by a salary survey.
To address this issue, a points-based role evaluation methodology has been developed, in which these roles and, hence their pay data, can be created.
Key attributes of the role are evaluated against a number of criteria (Evaluation Factors) and a Total Points Score obtained which is then converted into salary information for that particular role. See Role Evaluation for more information on this methodology.
To further increase the scope of salary information provided, AIM has utilised the output from the Role Evaluation Benchmarking System to create the AIM Pay Data Supplement, providing easy-reference top-line salary information for a range of positions not covered by the National Salary Survey.
